+ about

petitCABANON platform is named after a minor kind of spatial structure.

petit CABANONs are everywhere. They are temporary and temporal constructions and appear as semi-public pavilions, secondary structures or as counterpart sheltering of more permanent constructions. CABANON was Le Corbusier’s summer hut in the Mediterranean Sea, a seasonal shelter and experimental construction where LC performed and lived architecture. petit CABANONs are informal solutions to broader desires and can become stimulating spaces of gathering, exploration and experimentation. We can find anonymous petit CABANONs hosting all kinds of activities, from suburban backyards, to sandy beaches, to rural areas, to urban sidewalks and to building sites.

petit CABANON started as an experimental hosting space for architecture and visual culture and a plain weblog. For a year and a half, petit CABANON offered a modest gathering and discussion place for research projects of a few free-lancers and free-thinkers mingling in a small shop in Porto, at CCBombarda. After a first experiment, it now stages a second life.

petit CABANON became a platform for curatorial research and debate on space and visual culture. It is too an extradisciplinary workshop for inventive spatial installations, expanding notions of display and curatorial practice. In its in-between meanders and movements around space, petit CABANON is generating a body of written and visual materials, attempting oblique angles into the fields of architecture, visual arts and urban culture.

An on-going research platform by Inês Moreira since May 2007.
